Tyler's CASIIT Education

CASIIT Overview

The CASIIT program is a specialty program from my base high school that allows its members to:

  • Take various dual enrollment IT classes that allow people to learn important IT subjects in a rigorous setting while granting college credit.

  • Take fine arts classes, where people can learn how to design different things in a variety of formats.

  • Take networking/database paths, where they can learn applicable skills for jobs in these fields.

  • Take the computer science path, where people can learn computer science skills that can help prepare them for college and work.

  • Possibly earn their associates degree from NVCC.

My Computer Science Education

I did the entire computer science path in CASIIT. Here is what i learned in each class in the path:

  • Advanced Computer Math - Introductory computer science concepts, Purpose of an IDE, Basic Data and Variables, Branching, Iterations, and Arrays
  • AP Comp Sci A - This course expanded on topics taught in Advancec Computer Math at a more conceptual level and taught new topics such as methods, classes, recursion, basic algorithms, polymorphism, strings, File I/O, and inheritance.
  • Data Structures/Algorithms - In this class, we learned how certain advanced data types worked and how to sort them.
  • Advanced Computer Studies - In this class, we get to work on projects with the intent to teach people how computer science projects work in the real world.

My IT Education

I have learned a lot of information in CASIIT's IT courses. I have done some general IT courses and some in the networking concentrations. Here are the general IT courses I have taken and what I have learned:

  • IT Web Tech - I learned how to design HTML/CSS websites in this course.
  • IT Fundamentals DE - I got a fundamental overview of how computing works in this course.
  • IT Programming DE - I learned how to program in Python in this course.
  • Multimedia/Adv Web Tech DE - I learned how to use a variety of multimedia tools in this course and re-learned website development in this course.

These are the IT courses I did in the networking concentration:

  • Computer Networking I - I learned how networks operate, what hardware and software goes into networking, and how to design a network.
  • Computer Networking II DE - In this course, we expanded on what we learned in Computer Networking I, and I recieved college credit for this course.

Preparations for Future

The CASIIT program has prepared me for my future. As I intend to become a computer science major, the computer science path has introduced me to college-level work and information that ensure my success in college. The IT path has also taught me information that could help me succeed because IT skills complement the computer science field.
